5 Tips for a Best Man Wedding Speech

By Keith Johnson

If you are thinking about writing a best man wedding toast, you should look closely to these 5 golden tips that I give you in this article. These tips comes from my personal experience with writing my own best man wedding speech, and I hope it will help you writing yours.

Tip 1: The beginning

It is very important that you begin by introducing before you start on the actual toast. Many people might not know you, if you are attending a big wedding, so it will be good to, shortly and precise, tell everybody who you are and how you know the groom and maybe also the bride.

Tip 2: Use humor - but take care

Remember to put in a few jokes in your speech. The best toast contains a funny story about the groom, but be careful with this. You don't want to humiliate or embarrass anyone at the wedding, and especially not humiliate anyone. The "It's funny because it's true"-saying doesn't always work in a speech, but use it carefully and you will be fine.

Tip 3: Compliment the bride

A good best man wedding toast always contains some nice compliments to the bride. Make sure to state how lucky she is, or how lucky the groom is to get married to her.

Tip 4: Speak on behalf of the groom

Make sure that you don't embarrass the groom. Many people will judge the groom on the behavior of the best man, so don't get too drunk or say stupid things. The toast will get much better, if you remember you are speaking for the groom.

Tip 5: A childhood story or funny story

If you really want a great best man wedding toast, you have to tell a good story. It can be everything from at story about you and the groom, the beginning of the newly-weds relationship or just some funny story about the bridegroom. Remember that if people can relate to the story, it will move them. Make them laugh, but at the same time keep it clean and don't offend anyone.
